Our Facilities

Students at Sacred Heart College enjoy one of the best educational sites in the country. Located in Auckland’s peaceful Eastern suburbs, our campus is set in 22 hectares of rolling grounds. Classrooms and specialist rooms sit along the ridge of this tranquil space, taking full advantage of the sea view.

Our curriculum encourages learning in all fields in the classroom and out, which is reflected in the wide range of facilities across our campus. Our grounds comprise a 1500-seat auditorium, Performing Arts Centre, Chapel, Library, gymnasium, Aquatic Centre, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and multiple fields for sports and recreation.

Up to 130 students from Year 9 to 13 reside in our on-site Boarding Hostel. Please see below more information or visit our Boarding page for more details on Boarding facilities, including Hostel Hire that may be available to outside groups during school holidays.

Old Boys Memorial Chapel

Our religious values are at the core of everything we do at Sacred Heart. Our Chapel is the centre of prayer and liturgies within the College and offers students, staff, Brothers and visitors a quiet space to carry out these rituals.

Accommodating up to 600 people, the semicircular Chapel gives all occupants clear visibility of the altar. It is equipped with a sound and video system, providing acoustics and visual capabilities. There is both an organ and a baby grand piano for use within the Chapel.

The Chapel may be booked for baptisms, weddings and events suited to the sacred nature of the building.

Auditorium and Br Sean Hanaray Foyer

The Auditorium has seating for up to 1500, and is equipped with a high quality projector and audio system, a large stage and a high quality multimedia system. Seating may be cleared to accommodate dining tables for up to 600 guests.

The Br Sean Hanaray Foyer is the main entry point to the public section of the building. It may be used in conjunction with the Auditorium or as a standalone venue. The Foyer holds up to 250 for a cocktail event, or 160 for a sit-down meal. It can also be set up theatre style to seat 300.

Together these two areas provide a multipurpose space, with excellent natural acoustics. They are an ideal venue for conferences, cultural group celebrations, fundraisers and exhibitions.

Theatre

Adjoining the left hand side of the Foyer is the Theatre. Accessed via stairs or lift from the Foyer, the Theatre is suitable for small to medium sized musical productions, full scale plays, dance shows, presentations and concerts.

The Theatre has fixed tiered seating for up to 240, with a flat floor level stage. The stage space has a large proscenium arch, accessed from a side wing and loading dock to the left. There is also a small wing to the right, accessed through an internal door.

The stage has a white cyclorama, black tabs upstage, as well as black centre tabs. There is a small apron in front of the curtain for presentations.
