Scholarships


Sacred Heart College is dedicated to providing students with a nurturing learning environment rich in Marist values and culture. We have a limited number of scholarships available each year  to those applying for entry at Year 7 or Year 9, largely for those who would otherwise not have the means to attend the College. All Scholarship Applications must be accompanied by an Online Enrolment Application, Student Personal Statement, Family Financial Position and have a Confidential Report provided by the student's current school. 

The two types of scholarships available are:

  • Endeavour Scholarships
  • Development Foundation Scholarships

Scholarship offers are subject to  successful admission under the College's Enrolment Scheme.

Scholarship applications for 2027 entry are now open. Applications will close on Friday, 27 March 2026.
Endeavour Scholarships

Open to Māori and Pasifika Preference boys for intake at Year 7 or Year 9, these scholarships are designed for students who display leadership potential, demonstrate academic ability, and are actively involved in their culture. 

This is a scholarship for families in need of financial assistance. It covers 100% of tuition fees (Financial Contributions) and some compulsory school expenses (such as school camp, stationery, and initial device) up to a nominated amount for the duration of a student’s education. Boarding fees will be considered if the student lives out of the Auckland area (from Year 9). 

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants must be a prospective student for entry and Year 7 or Year 9 (i.e. students currently attending Sacred Heart College are not eligible to apply).
  • Applicants must hold a Preference Certificate as outlined in the Enrolment Scheme and Preference Certificate information.
  • Applicants must be of Māori or Pasifika descent. 
  • Students must be New Zealand citizens or hold New Zealand residency visas and reside in New Zealand. 
  • Applicants must have been enrolled as a full-time student at a New Zealand school for at least the last three school years.
  • Applicants must show strong leadership attributes, hold leadership roles and/or have supporting reference documentation.
  • Applicants should be actively participating in their culture and be able to share their skills and knowledge with the wider Sacred Heart College community.
  • Applicants will be subject to an annual review of their performance against attitude and commitment criteria.
  • Applicants must have been enrolled as a full-time student at a New Zealand school for at least the last three school years.

Development Foundation Scholarships

The Sacred Heart College Development Foundation manages a number of scholarships, which are largely funded by philanthropic supporters of the Sacred Heart community, including Old Boys of Sacred Heart College, local businesses, individuals, or charitable trusts. The Development Foundation offers three scholarships  as follows:

This scholarship is aimed at students who would benefit from an education at Sacred Heart College and who, due to financial hardship, would otherwise not be able to attend.

It covers 100% of school Financial Contributions for the duration of a student’s education. Other costs (Attendance Dues, uniform, device and stationery requirements, resource/course/subject fees, and extra-curricular activities) are not included and are the responsibility of the parents/caregivers. 

A small number of MSA Charitable Trust scholarships will be available each year.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants must be a prospective student for entry at Year 7 or Year 9 (i.e. students currently attending Sacred Heart College are not eligible to apply)
  • Applicants must hold a Preference Certificate as outlined in the Enrolment Scheme and Preference Certificate information.
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or hold New Zealand residency visas and reside in New Zealand.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and show they are unable to attend the College without the financial support of this scholarship
  • Applicants will be required to be a role model within the College, fully participate in College life as required (through service, academic, sporting or cultural activities), be courteous to staff and students at all times, and uphold the Marist values of the College
  • Applicants will be subject to an annual review of their performance. Continuation of the scholarship will be subject to satisfactory progress.

This scholarship is open to students who demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership qualities as well as an interest in the sciences (particularly medicine).

 It is aimed at families in need of financial assistance, and covers Financial Contributions and some compulsory school expenses (such as school camp, stationery, and an initial device) up to a nominated amount for the duration of a student’s education. 

 One Brian Linehan Scholarship will be available each year. 

 Scholarship Criteria

  •  Applicants must be a prospective student for entry at Year 7 or Year 9 (i.e. students currently attending Sacred Heart College are not eligible to apply) 
  • Applicants must hold a Preference Certificate as outlined in the Enrolment Scheme and Preference Certificate information
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or hold New Zealand residency visas and reside in New Zealand
  • Applicants must show strong leadership attributes and/or hold leadership roles
  • Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the sciences and/or medicine
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and show they are unable to attend the College without the financial support of this scholarship
  • Applicants will be required to be a role model within the College, fully participate in College life as required (through service, academic, sporting or cultural activities), be courteous to staff and students at all times, and uphold the Marist values of the College
  • Applicants will be subject to an annual review of their performance. Continuation of the scholarship will be subject to satisfactory progress. 

This scholarship is open to students whose parent/caregiver is employed as a First Responder. We recognise the selfless service and dedication First Responders provide to New Zealand communities.

First Responders are defined as staff from the New Zealand Defence Force, police, nurses, and emergency health and fire services.

The scholarship is intended for families in need of financial assistance and covers 100% of school Financial Contributions for the duration of a student’s education. Initial uniform costs covered (up to $1,000) and sporting fees (up to $500 per annum) are also included.

Other costs (Attendance Dues, device and stationery requirements, and resource/course/subject fees) are not included and are the responsibility of the parents/caregivers. Boarding fees may be considered if the student lives outside the Auckland area (from Year 9).

At least two First Responder scholarships will be available each year.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants may be prospective students seeking entry at Year 7 or Year 9, or current students at Sacred Heart College at any year level who meet the scholarship requirements.
  • Applicants must hold a Preference Certificate as outlined in the Enrolment Scheme and Preference Certificate information
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or hold New Zealand residency visas and reside in New Zealand.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of a current parent/caregiver’s employment as a First Responder such as a letter from the employer.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and show they are unable to attend the College without the financial support of this scholarship.
  • Applicants will be required to be a role model within the College, fully participate in College life, always be courteous to staff and students, and uphold the Marist values of the College.
  • Applicants will be subject to an annual review of their performance. Continuation of the scholarship will be subject to satisfactory progress.
  • If the parent or caregiver ceases employment as a First Responder, they must advise the College, and the scholarship will be subject to review.

How to apply for a Scholarship

To apply for one of our Scholarships, you will need to complete the following:

  • The College's Online Enrolment Application Form, including all required supporting documentation
  • A Scholarship Application Form
  • A Student Personal Statement  (on a separate piece of paper, typed or handwritten) outlining the reasons why the student wishes to attend the College. This is separate to the Student Profile that is to also be included as part of the Application for Enrolment.
  • A Student Confidential Report (to be provided to your son’s current school for completion and submission to Sacred Heart College - [email protected])

If your application is successful, you will be invited to a personal interview early in June. All applicants, both successful and unsuccessful, will be notified of the outcome of their application by email by the end of Term 2.

In the event of there being no candidates who reach a sufficiently high standard, scholarships may not be awarded.

The decision of the Headmaster is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
