Pompallier Shield 2025
On Thursday 1 May 2025 Sacred Heart College hosted the Pompallier Shield competition. All the Catholic secondary schools from the diocese of Auckland competed, 16 in total.
Categories included:
Proclamation of Scripture
Junior Prepared speech
Senior Oratory and
Waiata
It was a great opportunity for students to see and experience first-hand Catholic education being a joint enterprise of the Church, one much larger than their individual schools.
Mace Cadwallader (Senior Māori Scripture), Noah Fa’afiu (Senior Scripture proclamation), and Joseph Mafi (Junior prepared speech) all performed well.
The College took out placings as follows:
Ohea Huni-Fifita - 1st place in Senior Oratory
Henare Collier - 1st place in Junior Māori Scripture proclamation
Mark Arduyan - 2nd place in Junior Scripture proclamation
Waiata - 3rd place
Such success however was insufficient to bring home the Pompallier Shield, the aggregation of all the categories. Top placing went to St Mary’s College, pipping us at the post with substantial performances across all areas and our congratulations to them.
To be a top-performing all boys school in the diocese is no mean fete. We thank Mrs Anne Renwick, Mrs Margaret Ward, Matua Ben Christie, Mr Jonny White, and Mrs Lilia Capinelli for their intensive preparation of the team. Congratulations to the boys themselves who performed their best.
If it was about a Sacred Heart College team event, a celebration of faith and a wider appreciation of all things Catholic as a joint enterprise, it was mission accomplished.
